I have two accounts, Dreamer-Boy. Jared is for posting news and Tivon is my old account for moderation of the forums. But these days I can't figure out how to switch between the two. I'd rather not have people know my name to be honest. Don't want to get those odd moments with a child of tantrums lurking around my house..lol
I can see you Jared...Nice game of Crysis there....
Jared closes the blinds and enters the secret chambers...
Does not work for me either.
lots of ideas..
first of all, find a phpbb or vbulletin like comment section skin, or at least align center. also, the line where it say the date and time should be made a little biggeer. And STOP with the aluminum look for the forums, or at least change them somehow
How come whenever I post, my signature only shows up some of the times, not all the time?
once per thread.
Interesting.. Any white screens since the last adjustments?
@ Tivon : We had another WSOD today, but it was due to the server running an unused Tomcat service that went haywire. It has since been removed with it's dependencies. We have not had an actual site break since my updates earlier this week. *knock on wood*
Once per thread? I guess that's a good idea, never heard of that before.
@warmacblue : It's a verticle space saver, a resource saver and ends up not killing your eyes with everybody's flashy sigs. Seeing somebody's anime character caressing their computer case is cute/funny the first time, but who really wants to see it every other post, ya know? ...well besides Tivon... hehe
yea but you learn to recognize who's posting when you see someones sig...
I agree that it is a space and resource saver. The only single problem I see with it is that if there are really long posts like this one, then we will have to go back to the first page to see the persons signature. Or does it refresh every time the thread reaches a new page?
Well, If you post once in a thread then there is no problem here. If you are however a spamster that feels the need to say "+1", "I agree", and "LOL" then I very much like the idea of limited signatures. ;)
@warmacblue : Once per thread.
Why the limitation? Sure it saves space, but in a world where companies are selling larger and larger monitors each year, the last thing I'd think that I would hear is conserving space. If this was 2004, and everyone were running 1280x1024 monitors, then that would be reasonable to impose such a limit. Beyond that, signatures help identify a person just as much, if not even more so than an avatar. Whats next? Only one avatar per page? One post per page to make it easier on the servers? Especially considering the fact that this forum is already very strict on signature size, why take a further chunk out of our freedoms? Many posters on this forum used to pride themselves with their signatures. We used to have signature design threads, signature rating threads, and signature comment threads. At that time, I believe this forum had, as a whole, some of the highest quality signatures among our members, out of all the forums I have ever seen. That was also the time when I believe this forum enjoyed its highest popularity. Sure you can argue that signatures aren't being eliminated entirely, but nevertheless, it further hurts 3GMs image as a forum. We're becoming more of a comment website. Even now, I feel like I'm just posting an elongated youtube comment. Beyond that, it is also the notion that we're being put under tighter regulations. Forums were meant to be a place of self expression, a place where people could visit, and enjoy loose, free discussion with others without a pressure gauge next to them.
Who knows? Maybe in a while this forum won't ever have the need to enforce the one signature per page rule.
Maybe Rod should do a poll... Bigger sigs once per thread, or strict signatures throughout the thread...?
Change is hard. Stick with us a while longer. This is all still up in the air and ideas are being implemented with everyone's positive input. 8) 8-)
I wish Zach could figure out what is killing the website. :P
we have eliminated all the errors the server was generating... now we have narrowed it down to a random spike in traffic to our server... it basically ties up ever available process on the server. we have the network admins tracking it. I will know more in the morning. if they can't resolve it, we are exploring new hosting options...
LOL.. That's a bit harsh Bejohnson.
seriously, how many times have you guys switched servers over the years?
Why dont you just find one reliable host.....?
WE-DeusEx*2001, I would like nothing more and we are looking for a reliable host we can stick with long term. Unless of course the current host can resolve these issues.
bejohnson, Yes, the old forum are gone, but we plan on making this forum our new home :)
BTW: I've instructed Zach to focus on the site first, not the forum. And he only has weekends to work on it, so it could be a few more weeks before everything is finished. We both know that this needs to be finished, it's just finding the time.
Rodney, No disrespect to Zach what so ever but these forums are your career dude... If the weekends are all the time he has then don't you think you should get someone else who will be dedicated?
I understand Zach has his own job and also busy with life so im not blaming him at all but think about it. These forums are probably one of the most important things in your life besides family of course...
@Deus : I have been super focused on getting the server stable. Now that I am 99% sure I have found the culprit (Google, btw) we can get on with making the site great! Please leave constructive comments and we will be sure to take them into consideration. There are many reasons we are on the path we are on, trust us, have a positive attitude and life will be grand :D
