Lets just wait and see what Zach can do with all of this. At least we are able to post and talk about stuff. Perhaps just give it a try first and it might grow on you. At least I can read the text. I urge our users to get back into their routines such as posting off topics or answering hardware questions.

I agree Jared that we should go back to our normal routines. However, I'll be honest. I don't have much motivation to do so without my post count in place. I'm sure others feel the same.

I do notice a bunch of new members which is good. I am pretty much back on my normal routine and I do enjoy the forums. At first I always hate a change but then it grows on me. For me, I don't really care about my old post count but I can sympathize with those who want their original counts restored.

It's slow, too many changes, too much loss in the terms of features.  Frustrating.  But slow is something I forgot to mention.  It has been quite slow, even when just clicking the bookmark and waiting for the page to even show up in the browser. :(

If I don't login it's seems slower to me. Sometimes it's instant and other times it takes a while.

The page layout doesn't even work right in Firefox 3.0.18.  The top "strip" with NEWS, RSS, FORUMS, REVIEWS, etc overlaps that lame white Search Box and you can't read the entries on the right of that line.

Been here 3+ years but not sure if this site will every be usable enough to keep wanting to come back.  Bummer. :(

I noticed that as well. Before I upgraded to FireFox 3.6 it was out of place. Once again, zach needs to know about these issues so he can fix them. Please post a picture of what is happening so we can make this place better.

(BETA FORUM)

It's unfortunate that the forum is second on the LONG LIST of things to do and it needs to be alot stronger than this to get our people interested again.

Are we allowed to attach images to comments?

Or can we email him stuff?

Thanks

Attachments in comments hasn't been seen as a crucial element in usablitiy... Your thoughts?

I do not think it is crucial, but some sort of basic attachment feature would be nice.

Perhaps each person could have up to 10 files limited to 100k each, or perhaps 5 files at 100k each.  Perhaps they could manually rotate out the ones that are old to make room for newer ones, but all the time limited to either a 5 or 10 file total, in JPG, PNG, GIF maybe?

I do understand that there are many, many things that folks are asking for, so such an item would not be very high priority, and that's ok.

To be honest, I am still kind of confused about how this site is working and what options we have available to us.

Hope that answers the question. :)

BTW, I would not mind emailing it to Zach but the link to his site in the lower right corner of the forum appears not to be working.

When we finsh the majority of it, the site will go into Beta (currently Alpha). Rod will do a nifty little video explaining everything for those of us that are confused and those that are new.

I'm sort of surprised that anyone can afford to have this much extra time devoted to something like a custom forum.

They must really, really love some of the features they can't get with a turn-key solution in order to put this much time, effort and cost into it, I would guess.

Hope it all works out.

I'm trying to post here about the problem at the top right of the page.  Hope this works, and if so, hope that Zach can fix it.  Thanks

No. The igloo in which our main ISP provider was housed in had melted. And along with that incident, the water and ice damaged a lot of the internet infastructure.

Salavat you are COMPLETELY WRONG!@@@!!!

The Actual truth is that the new 3dgameman.com server was housed in the international space station up until yesterday when a micro-meteroid flying through space at 20,000 mph punctured the station hitting the back of the server case slightly dislogging one ethernet cable resulting in the extreme lathargy of the download speed of a 1 mile radius here on earth coincidentaly  with Opta's housing being smack dab in the middle of it.

Or Vampire Robot Natzis who are also zombies came flying in ridding dolphins shooting lazer cannons to impair the almight server which supplies all of us with eternal life.

I don't know but I think im leaning towards the latter....

I can't say for sure why it's slow at times. The server is top notch, but perhaps there are things that are not optimized properly yet.

Hell, it's a major operation to copy and paste. This forum has turned into a monument to an ego. In the military it would be labeled a major CF.

Think of the time, resources, money and miscellaneous material that has gone into trying to create a system that is readily available in much better form for much less effort and cost. I stand by my monument comment.

I agree that it would be nice to just copy paste and not have the popup. Zach might be doing something with that or at least he was until his time was taken away last weekend.  Just to let everyone know we also have a few new copy & paste options at the top such as: paste as plain text or paste from word. And lets keep in mind that Zach has been asked to work on the main site before the forums, so it might be awhile before we see a completed forum.

I know people find it a fun past time to inject their negative criticisms in forums, although I highly doubt I would hear any of this in a personal one-on-one conversation. This is not going to be that place where people use psychological oppressions for every little weed in our garden. Why do some people feel the need to kick us when we are down, I don't know, but I also understand the frustrations when something loved is gone. We are all very hard working people with day jobs, families and just doing our best to provide a new and functional Website. The old ways proved to be a disaster in the end for those of us behind the curtains for many reasons beyond our control. So let's not lose the war now wishing things could be the same old again. This is our time here and now to rebuild 3GM into something fantastic! Please people lets embrase the change and move forward. With all of your help and positive input we can make 3GM into that place again on the Internet.

Thank you.

Clearly you missed the humor and analogy! Linear thinking is no good if you have to take a turn. Here is some help figureing that one out:

Analogy is a cognitive process of transferring information from a particular subject (the analogue or source) to another particular subject (the target), and a linguistic expression corresponding to such a process.

Thanks for playing.

Sorry for the double post but i just need to say something....The main site's home page looks very confusing, and too me, as a blog owner I would say the most important task is to get new, permanent users and commentors, thus lowering the bounce rate. The amount of links looks very cofusing, almost like a text or paragraph. Also, i think you could add something to the design in terms of flow between the top part where the logo is and the background picture.

I agree there is a long wait some times loading the forum from the main page. Zach should clue us in why that is happending, but he probably already has this listed as number #50024.. lol

@ Copy/Paste Questions : You can simply CTRL-V into the comment box. If you right-click, you have a paste option that triggers the popup for cleansing of the pasted content. If you want to "just copy/paste" just your keyboard. If you're a mouse junky, then you'll need to use the popups.

I'm often getting "Service unavailable" messages when I try to post.

For this post, I had to enter it from a computer with a different IP address before I could post successfully.

But even at that, after a few posts, it gives me that same "Service unavailable" message.

Is my account corrupted or something?  Or is there some sort of limit placed on my account? If so, please let me know what up.

If not, can someone PLEASE look into this?

Thanks,

At home and work sometimes when I'm logged out the page does not load correctly. If I login the problem goes away.
