Happy Valentines folks :)
So how's the speed and stability of the site and forum for everyone?
its very good...for the last week or so the site is almost speeding
Speed seems OK but there is noticeable lag in loading and swapping pages. The lag may be being caused by delays in resolving the DNS or some other problem with the host network.
Note: I have checked the settings for e-mail notification of replies. I do not want them and set it up correctly in the user settings but I'm still getting an e-mail every time someone posts in the thread.
Bejohnson, posts #233 & #247 had the notification box checked. I've turned those off for you. ;)
Both main site and forum are slow to load for me.
Speed is generally good. The slow speeds are noticeable when first entering the forums and selecting "new posts" and "mark all forums read". Not bad though, I just take a few seconds to stand up and take a break.
Well, this new server really should not be slow. It's not instant for me, but it's not far off. So I wonder why some of you are finding it slow. hmmmm
Would have to break them down per internet provider and trace their route to 3GM. It can't be fast for everyone. I also think Zach has not turned on the tweaks yet since the server move. And because our web master has a day job and wife & kids we just have to wait. ;)
True, I don't think Zach has tweaking the new server yet, so that could help.
Yup, back on post #313
""Zach Wrote: Keep in mind folks that I still have tweaking to do including accelerators. Forums will speed up too once I pull the "crap" threads out (years of spam messages etc)...
could that "learning cache" have anything to do with the speed?
The learning cache will speed things up later. The big difference right now is the new server upgrade. But yeah, caching is more ideal because it removes the need for plugging away at the hard drives / memory / processing time before it's sent out. It pretty darn fast for me right now. I have no complaints. :)
We have a number of caches implemented for HTML, CSS and JS rendering. I will be implementing some PHP and MYSQL caches this weekend. I will also be fixing a lot of the little/annoying issues people have been experiencing and possibly bringing the user control panel and/or PM'ing...
Looking forward to this upcoming weekend Zach ;)
OH wow.. A few days of silence actually scares me..lol
Hopefully the silence will be broken this weekend with Zach's massive site improvements and tweaks ;)
Will we be getting our post counts back from the old forum?
At some point yes. Zach's main focus is getting the site up and running smooth before he hits the little things.
Slugbug Posts: 1,018 in the old 3GM forum.
I miss all the Search features.
I still wonder why you didn't stick with a standard product like IPB or PHPBB, etc. They are all fairly similar and easy to make use of as a result of that familiarity.
But I will keep thinking positive. :)
I am sure the features will come with time. I am just glad we have the "New Posts" link.
Every time I look around Zach is adding something. :)
It's just that there are 100% free, turn-key solutions with all the features that everybody is used to working near 100% right from the start, and I don't get why someone wouldn't want to just save all the time, effort and money and use one of those.
I'm pretty dense though... :)
Flogging a dead horse eh.
Yeah, it is an annoying failing of mine.
Sorry about that...
BTW, is there a "QUOTE" button in our future?
It's only there for archives.
Correct. The old forums are still there in an archived state to which users can still reference their previous materials and so that people trying to find stuff via search engines can still find what they are looking for. :)
Very good to know. Thanks much for the replies.
