I'd like to make a suggestion for rule #1 in this thread:
Quote:1. We here at 3GM do not care for SPAM in any shape or form. If we think you are posting Spam we will ban the account and remove all posts.
According to this thread, this looks to be advertise-related, even though that's a couple of months old. It's only just an example.
Sould rule #1 be stated as:
Quote:1. We here at 3GM do not care for SPAM/ADVERTISEMENTS in any shape or form. If we think you are posting Spam we will ban the account and remove all posts.
I think being concise is important.
And by the way, shouldn't anything inside quote tags be indented? I'm using Firefox 7, if that helps.
There's not a lot of SPAMMERS out there :( Fact is, I had to close my RodneyReynolds.com forum down due to it :( It's still a mess over there and we are so overwhelmed with having to clean it all up, we have go to it yet. There are so many idiots out there, it's killing many forms of online communication.
Rod, I am currently marking SPAM posts as offensive ("Flag as offensive" under the posts) but this only works for replies, and there is no easy way to do this on new posts that start out as SPAM.
Now, I'm not suggesting we need more moderators, but is there any possibility to offer a SPAM marker for easier marking of the posts, and perhaps set up someone as a SPAMFIGHTER who's only real moderation task is to clean up marked posts (based on review first, of course... don't want a SPAM marking to be a naughty user's way of deleting someone else's valid post)?
My 3¢. I've set up and torn down several forums over the last decade for exactly this reason: too many spammers, and not enough time to keep up with them! You know when more than a tenth of the posts are spam, you have lost...
Golf club spammer has invaded again.
